4. Explanation
1. This is a fear message because it gives a statistic that over 150,000 people die each day. It is saying that you can be one of those people, and your friends can wait another five minutes while you talk on the phone. It won't kill them.

2. The pictures of motorcycles are distracting from whoever is reading the message to really think hard about the message. They will see the message and it will register, but everything else that is going on around it will distract them from really thinking hard about it.

3. This two-sided message showcases both the positive and negatives of talking on the phone in the car, but makes the negative side far more interesting and correct to read. It kind of makes the positive side sound like an idiot, and hopefully people reading it will realize how stupid they sound when they talk on the phone.

This intelligent woman has made the right decision when she got into the car. Her phone is turned off and in the glove compartment. She will not be distracted while on the road. The lack of temptation will keep her mind clearly on the road and keep her safe from any accidents. Had she been on the phone the consequences could have been fatal.

Driving is a privilege and a necessity for most if not all people. Without your cell phone on while driving it can and will reduce the accident rate on the roads. Do you want be the one responsible for your kids not being able to go Disney world?

5. Subliminal Message

For our subliminal message, we came up with an idea to have a picture of a smashed up car and an amublance in the background. For a split second during the ad, a message will appear simply saying the word "cell phone". Hopefully in the back of their minds, they will pair the two together and not do it.

Frank Drew Ph. D and assistant professor of psychology at the University of Utah performed research regarding drinking and cell phone use. In conclusion, he found that people are as impaired when they drive and talk on a cell phone as they are when they drive intoxicated at the legal blood-alcohol limit. So please, unless you enjoy driving drunk, don't talk on the phone.

1. We are hoping that the attractive woman will persaude people to follow by example. She looks very business-like and we are hoping that career-based women will follow the example to also become successful one day.

2. We are trying to use the guilt factor to persaude families to want to take their kids on family vacations and to be safe about it.

3. Obviously, the over-the-top cell phone coming out of the window is an intense way of showcasing the effects of the cell phone on driving. Hopefully, it'll give the viewers a "whoa!" sensation.

4. The repetition is the fact that if you continually use your cell phone in the car, it will eventually take over the car and the phone will become apart of it. If you use your phone so often, it will become habitual for you to be on the phone in car, increasing your chances of an accident.

5. Pretty much explained up above. We hope the message will connect the image of a terrible car crash will be burned into people's brain when they think of talking on the phone in the car.

6. Using the expertise of Frank Drew, this message compares talking on the phone to something that is illegal, driving drunk. Hopefully, this will get through to anybody who knows somebody who has been hurt or killed by a drunk driver, as well as anybody who has gone through personal tragedy.

7. This message uses similarity to relate to the every day, average person. No matter if you are a college student or a housewife, being distracted from the road can lead to an accident or death. We hope this message gets through to everyone.

Since the time of cellphones, their use has always been a cause for debate. When they became more portable and easier to carry around, they replaced the radio as the most distracting item you can have in a car with you.

History
According to the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association, in 1990, approximently 4.3 million people owned cell phones. In October of 2008, over 266 million people now own one. A study released in April 2006 found that almost 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involved some form of driver inattention within three seconds of the event. The new study found that the most common distraction is the use of cellphones, followed by drowsiness.

There really isn't a detailed history that I can give. Before cell phones, the radio was mostly blamed for distractions in the car. I couldn't find a statistic to say how many accidents were caused by the radio, but I assume it's got to be pretty high. To be honest, I've been in an accident when my friend was fussing with the radio, so I'm sure it's high.

Cell phone use while driving has overtaken the radio as the highest cause of accidents. Currently, 45 countries have completely banned cell phone while driving, while many others are currently in debate about it. However, where cell phone use is the highest (the U.S.) only six states currently have laws banning it. 21 states are currently debating it, while the other 23 don't have any laws whatsoever.

Technological Fixes....
The main technological fix for cell phone use while driving is the invention of the handsfree device. Originally it was connected to the phone by a wire, but that has been replaced by bluetooth.

Another fix that came out a couple years ago was the invention of OnStar. It is used more now as a way to get help if you are injured or if your car breaks down, but I also know that OnStar used to be used as a phone that would project the voice throughout the entire car.

The problem with both of those fixes if that they don't help the problem of being distracted by the conversation itself. Sure, bluetooth helps by removing the need to hold the phone by your ear, but it still doesn't help being distracted by the conversation.

To this day, I still don't know of any fixes that have come out to help the conversation in a car. The only thing I could think of would be to completely eliminate phone conversations in the car, which I don't see happening anytime soon. The best we can do right now is what we have, with the bluetooth headset. I think possibly having the conversation projected throughout the car would be helpful because people wouldn't be having to try and listen so hard.
